In the IMM ranking of Poland’s most frequently quoted internet websites in 2022, first place was taken by WP.pl (approximately 22 thousand cross-media references), followed by Onet.pl and WP.pl.

Internet as a source of news

Over the past few years, news consumption habits have shifted from print and television to the internet and social media platforms; nine in 10 Poles quoted Facebook as their go-to social media platform for obtaining news content. Between 2013 and 2021, the share of Poles reading news online more than doubled, reaching the highest value of 69 percent. The internet was the primary source of news and information among individuals with a higher education background.

Fake news in Poland

Fake news refers to intentionally and verifiably false information intending to manipulate people's perceptions of real facts and events. Fake news often damages the reputation of a person or entity in question.
In 2021, four in five Polish people stated that they had previously encountered fake news about their country or the world. The majority of Poles also believe that the emergence of fake news is a result of an intentional act; relatively few consider it a sheer coincidence.

* Sample for the year 2022. The research was done on the basis of monitoring materials from the press, radio, television and Internet portals where media names were mentioned:
- press titles,
- Internet portals,
- radio stations, television stations or the titles of their programs.

The analysis covers all messages that quote or refer to reports that originally appeared in other media. The IMM prepares a report on the basis of all those messages in which the media refer to the reports of other media.
