In 2021, approximately three-quarters of surveyed individuals with Surinamese and Antillean roots in the Netherlands would be in favor of adapting the traditional look of Zwarte Piet (Black Pete). Zwarte Piet or "Black Pete" is the fictional aid of Sinterklaas, a local variation of Santa Claus in the Netherlands and Belgium. Due to his traditional black appearance, it has been publicly discussed in those countries whether Black Pete is a racist phenomenon.
