This statistic presents the year-on-year development of retail and consumer prices in Germany from 2000 to 2023. In the recent past, retail prices generally acted as a brake upon the inflation rate since they increased at a slower rate than general consumer prices (also due to increasing energy costs). In 2023, retail prices increased by 6.7 percent compared to the previous year, whilst consumer prices rose by 5.9 percent.
