Share of U.S. students' expenses covered by Pell grants 2003/04-2023/24
In the academic year of 2023/24, it was possible for U.S. students studying in public four-year institutions to cover 31 percent of their expenses with the aid of the federal Pell Grant program. For private, nonprofit four-year institutions, only 13 percent of expenses were able to be covered by Pell Grants.
