Most visited Latin American amusement and theme parks 2019-2022

Having welcomed more than two million visitors in total, Beto Carrero World in Brazil was the leading Latin American amusement and theme park in 2022. Six Flags Mexico, located in Mexico City, was the second most visited theme park in the region.

COVID-19 impact on the amusement parks market

The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic had a significant impact on the amusement and theme park industry both globally and within Latin America. In 2020, the attendance at Beto Carrero World exhibited a decline of roughly 44 percent compared to 2019. Meanwhile in Mexico, the total number of visitors at Six Flags Mexico and the Xcaret Park dropped by 75 percent and 62 percent respectively. As a result of the COVID-19 impact, the global market size of amusement parks lost more than 20 billion U.S. dollars in 2020.

U.S. dominance of the market

The United States has long dominated the amusement and theme park market. Though other countries are home to world-renown parks, seven of the ten most visited parks worldwide are located in that North American country. By a wide margin, the Magic Kingdom park (Walt Disney World) was the world’s most frequented theme park in 2021 with over 12 million visitors.
