Methane emissions in the Nordics 1990-2022, by country
In 2022, the combined annual methane emissions of the Nordic countries reached the lowest figure in the past three decades, at less than 59.4 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO₂e). Norway recorded the highest emissions within the region, with 23 MtCO₂e emitted. This represented 40 percent of Nordics methane emissions that year. Finland recorded the biggest decline in emissions in the past 10 years, while Danish methane emissions increased by 15 percent in the same period.
