As of September 2023, Brazil was the Latin American country with the most JCI-accredited healthcare organizations, with a total of 70 institutions. Peru ranked second with 11 medical institutions receiving accreditation by Joint Commission International, while there were just three health organizations accredited in Argentina as of that date. The JCI accreditation is a recognized measure of patient safety and quality of health care given in a health organization.

Health organizations that can earn the JCI accreditation include hospitals, academic medical centers, ambulatory and home care centers, laboratories, and medical transport organizations, among others.
