Economic loss due to river floods in the EU 2020-2100, by scenario
The economic damage due to river flooding in the European Union could reach almost 50 billion euros per year by 2100, under a 3ºC warming scenario and if no adaptation measures are implemented. This figure is a six-fold growth when compared to 2020. In contrast, if adaptation measures are taken, the economic damage caused by river floods in the EU in 2100 are estimated to remain under 10 billion euros per year, regardless of warming scenario.
