As of March 2024, the Northern Hemisphere's sea ice reached an extent of 14.87 million square kilometers. In 1980, the sea ice extent was 16.04 million square kilometers during the same month. Sea ice is extensively prevalent in the Northern Hemisphere due to the large landmass.
