Japan: share of people attending traditional art performances 2022

According to a survey conducted in Japan in January 2023, the share of respondents who stated that they attended traditional art performances in the past year amounted to about three percent. Attendance rates dropped significantly compared to the previous years due to the social distancing measures implemented in the wake of the coronavirus (COVID-19). Traditional art performances cover a broad variety of stage performances, from classical music, to puppet shows, to drama.
