The European Championships (EURO) 2020 were postponed by one year as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and took place in 11 different nations across Europe from June 11 to July 11, 2021. In a survey in June 2021 in various countries, 60 percent of Spanish fans believed it to be unfair if a team were to automatically forfeit a match if they were not able to field a full team due to COVID-19. The tournament was ultimately able to take place without great disruption and Italy emerged as champions of Europe for the second time in the nation's history.
