In a survey conducted in 2021, more than half - 52 percent of respondents - in Peru said a military coup would be justifiable in case of high corruption. This was the highest level of tolerance of military coups due to corruption in all the Latin American and Caribbean countries surveyed, although one-third or more of countries agreed to this statement. At the other end of the spectrum, only 20 percent of the voting-age adults interviewed in Uruguay would justify a military coup in case of high levels of corruption.
