Number of U.S. neonatal and postneonatal deaths from 1995 to 2021
In 2021, there were 19,928 infant deaths in the United States. Around 12,797 of these deaths were neonatal deaths. Leading causes of infant mortality in the U.S. include congenital malformations, disorders related to short gestation and low birthweight, maternal complications, and sudden infant death syndrome.
