Share of French trusting EU partner countries for environmental commitments 2018
In 2017, Donald Trump announced that he will withdraw the United States from the Paris climate agreement. The American president declared that he wanted to renegotiate a fairer deal, claiming that he was elected "to represent the citizens of Pittsburgh, not Paris" and accusing the agreement of disadvantaging US businesses and workers.
The Paris climate agreement has been signed in 2015 by almost 200 nations who agreed to curb greenhouse gas emissions in order to prevent the climate change and keep global warming below 2 degrees.
The US are the world's second largest emitter of greenhouse gases.
