Belgium: domestic and cross-border e-commerce distribution 2016-2018

This statistic shows the answers to a survey question asking consumers in Belgium if they made their online purchases either from a domestic e-commerce retailer or from a web shop located in a foreign country in 2016 and 2018. As of 2018, approximately 55 percent of the respondents indicated they would do their online shopping from both a domestic online retailer as well as on a foreign e-commerce platform. This is an increase when compared to 2016.

Based on the number of website visits, Amazon.fr, the French version of Amazon was Belgium's most popular online retailer with roughly 160 million visits in 2017. Chinese web shop Aliexpress had approximately 66 million visits from Belgium. 2ememain.be and 2dehands.be (the same online platform, in respectively French and Dutch) were the most visited online platform with domestic origins.
