This statistic represents the distribution of cumulative renewable energy capacity additions in the United States that have been installed due to the Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS) as of 2015, broken down by technology. During this time, some 30 percent of the cumulative RPS capacity additions were from solar technologies. RPS has been used to increase renewable energy by requiring utilities to offer a specified amount of renewable energy by a given date.
