U.S. leading power plants 2022, based on electricity production
Eight out of the 10 largest power plants in the United States were nuclear power plants as of 2022. In that year, the largest power plant in the U.S. based on electricity production was Palo Verde in Arizona, with a total electricity generation of some 31.9 terawatt-hours. With 29.3 terawatt-hours of electricity produced in 2022, Browns Ferry Nuclear Station, located in Alabama, was the second-largest U.S. power plant based on electricity generation. James H. Miller Jr., a fossil fuel-fired plant located in Alabama, ranked seventh in terms of production, at roughly 21 terawatt-hours.
