Japan: usage of digital salary payments 2023

According to a survey conducted in 2023, less than one percent of people in Japan received their wages digitally. Around nine percent wanted to use digital wage payments. Since April 2023, employers are allowed to make wage payments digitally via payments apps.

Original question: "In order to promote cashless payments, wage payments are now permitted to be made to the account of a fund transfer company designated by the Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare, if the worker agrees to this. Would you use digital payment of wages at your workplace if it became available?"

Respondents were asked to choose between face-to-face interviews and postal retrieval of surveys.
The source used a stratified two-stage random sampling method.
