Monthly household expenditure distribution on food in Japan 2013-2022, by type
The share of processed foods and prepared meals in Japanese household spending experienced continuous growth in the last decade. In 2022, processed products constituted a 30.3 percent share of food expenditure in multi-person households in Japan, an increase from 28.6 percent in 2013. In the same period, ready-to-eat meals grew by 2.9 percent to reach a 15.2 percent share of expenditure in 2022.
