In 2021-2022, it was estimated that around two percent of adults in the United States with a family income less than 100 percent the federal poverty level (FPL) suffered from myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome. Myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome is characterized by overwhelming fatigue that is not improved by rest and may limit activity.
