Number of returnees in Libya 2021, by region
Over 623 thousand people returned to their homes in Libya after being internally displaced, between January and February 2021. In that period, Benghazi and Tripoli hosted the highest number of returnees, which exceeded 189 thousand and 150 thousand, respectively. The majority of the returnees could go back to their previous home. Before, these people were identified as internally displaced persons (IDPs), meaning that they were forced to leave their homes and remained within their country's borders. Due to the conflicts and the deterioration of national security, Libya counted over 245 thousand displaced people in January and February 2021.
