As of March 2020, nearly nine out of ten Brazilians agreed that the use of fossil fuel products such as gasoline and diesel was polluting, according to a survey conducted in the country. While over 70 percent of respondents believed the use of these fuels to be the main cause of climate change, a similar share considered it a necessary evil, with 77 percent of respondents agreeing the fossil fuel industry was a good source of employment for Brazilians.
