Transportation sector CO₂ emission change in the U.S. 2005-2021, by state
The majority of U.S. states had achieved overall transportation-related carbon dioxide emission reductions as of 2021, relative to 2005 levels. The largest percentage reduction during this time was observed in New Jersey, where transportation emissions fell 38 percent. The U.S. has set an economy-wide target to reduce its net greenhouse gas emissions by 50 to 52 below 2005 levels by 2030.
