According to a survey conducted in January 2020 regarding the ongoing workstyle reforms in Japanese companies, a majority of surveyed middle managers felt that their personal workload increased due to the changes. While more than 40 percent spoke of a general increase in their workload, another 18 percent stated to have a severely increased one. Japan's workstyle reform legislation, which was passed in June 2018, entered its first phase in April 2019. Among other things, it aims to reduce the number of overtime hours.
