Additional power demand in maritime sector in Europe - forecast by technology 2050
This statistic shows the estimated additional power demand for EU-related shipping in 2050 - compared to the EU28 electricity generation in 2015 - under different propulsion scenarios using renewable sources. Battery-electric propulsion was the most efficient technology, requiring some additional 350 terawatt hours. Currently under development, ammonia-fueled internal combustion engines (ICE) would lead to an additional energy demand of 1,110 TWh.
