Awareness of bike insurance policies in Japan 2019
The majority of bicycle owners in Japan, around 82.3 percent, were aware of the existence of bicycle insurance policies to cover for damages in the event of accidents, as revealed by a survey conducted among Japanese cyclists in September 2019. In addition to the nationwide mandatory registration process of bicycles, the local governments of Saitama, Kanagawa, Shizuoka, Nagano, Shiga, Osaka, Kyoto, Hyogo and Kagoshima prefectures have enforced compulsory liability insurances for cyclists as of February 2020.
