As of 2019, a sizable share of consumers in Dutch-speaking Belgium were prepared to pay extra for purchasing items which contribute to environmental pollution, such as disposable packaging. 40 percent of Flemish respondents surveyed indicated that they were willing to pay a surcharge on polluting products, while the share of respondents who indicated that they were not ready to do so was approximately 35 percent.
