In an opinion poll of 2015, 57.6 percent of Japanese who were worried or somewhat worried about possible incidents of terrorism in Japan cited the involvement of Japanese nationals in terrorist attacks overseas as a reason for their anxiety. An almost equally large proportion of 57.5 percent of respondents referred to the emergence of terrorist groups like ISIL. In January 2015, two Japanese citizens were killed by the Islamic State.
