Views on the likelihood of protests against the government Malaysia 2019-2020
This is not surprising, as Malaysia experienced several large-scale protests in 2018 against the then-prime minister Najib Razak. The current prime minister, Mahathir Mohamad, won the 2019 election on the promise, amongst other issues, to hand over power to popular opposition figure Anwar Ibrahim in 2020. Should the public be dissatisfied with the way the government is run, a fresh wave of protests is a possibility.
