Medals won by the Italian team at World Aquatics Championships 2001-2019
At Gwangju 2019, the Italian team obtained its record of medals won at a World Aquatics Championship, by winning four gold, six silver and five bronze medals. The latest record dated back to the 17th edition of the World Aquatics Champions, held in Budapest in 2017. On that occasion, Italy won four gold, three silver and nine bronze medals. Although the medals obtained in Budapest (16 medals) were more than the ones won in Gwangju (15), the Italian team improved its results from 2017 to 2019. In fact, the importance of a medal tally is calculated first on the number of gold medals won, then on the number of silvers and finally on the amount of bronze medals won.
