The United Kingdom was the second biggest producer of oil and gas in Europe in 2021, according to data from the BP Statistical Review of World Energy 2022. As the following chart shows, only Norway surpassed the UK, having produced 93.8 million tonnes of oil and 114.3 billion cubic meters of natural gas that year. Meanwhile, the UK produced 40.9 million tonnes of oil and 32.7 billion cubic meters of natural gas. Both countries are dwarfed by Russia - listed in BP’s report not under Europe, but the Commonwealth of Independent States region - which produced 536.4 million tonnes of oil and 701.7 billion cubic meters of natural gas in 2021.
