The electricity sector is the largest within the global energy supply industry in terms of employment. In 2019, some 17 million people were employed within the electricity supply sector. This figure is forecast to grow to 28.5 million under the assumption that the world economy will be striving towards net zero by 2050. Electrification will be one of the most important aspects of achieving a zero carbon economy as renewable capacity increases and the sectors emission intensity declines.
