As of 2023, the brand adidas was the fifth-largest apparel brand in the world, with a brand value of over 15 billion U.S. dollars. As such, it comes to no surprise that the company is also one of highest-earning athletic apparel, accessories, and footwear companies in the world. Adidas employed around 59 thousand people worldwide in 2023. The organization's global net sales amounted to about 21.4 billion euros that year, signifying a slight decrease compared to 2022. This is similar to 2021 and considerably higher than 2020's figures, which saw lower sales caused by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.Currently, North America and Greater China are some of adidas' most important markets, as these regions combined accounted for approximately 40 percent of the company's annual retail sales. In comparison, nearly 40 percent of the company's sales were made in the EMEA region alone. Apparel and footwear are the Group's biggest segments and unsurprisingly generate the bulk of the company's sales. In 2023, the company produced some 330 million units of sportswear and about 310 million pairs of shoes worldwide. The number of shoes produced by adidas had dropped considerably in 2022, just after the divestiture of the Reebok business. While the athletic footwear subsidiary been part of the adidas family since the mid-2000s, adidas announced its plans to sell the Reebok brand in 2021 and had been acquired by Authentic Brands Group for a total consideration of two and a half billion U.S. dollars in early 2022.
