Out of 29.3 million children and adolescents aged between 5 and 17 in Mexico, more than 2.1 million did not attend school (7.2 percent of the population in that age range). It was estimated that almost 40 percent of minors who did not attend school were legally employed, whereas another 3.5 percent were illegally employed.
