Change in number of people outside in different areas due to COVID-19 Japan 2020
the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the number of people going outside declined significantly across Japan. As of August 27, 2020, the number of people in Shibuya area in the center of Tokyo Prefecture was down by approximately 26 percent compared to January and February, when the number of infection cases were relatively low. When compared to right after the declaration on April 7 at 3 pm, the number of people outside increased by around 29 percent in the area.
Tokyo has been the prefecture with the highest number of COVID-19 patients since the end of March 2020. On May 25, the government lifted the state of emergency in all 47 prefectures in the country. The Tokyo prefectural government lifted the business suspension request as well for almost all the businesses on June 11.
